Ok so I have heard about the new Windows Phone 7 coming standard with Xbox Live. I wasn’t exactly sure what that meant. At first I thought it was going to be a stripped down version of Xbox live specifically made for Windows Mobile Phones. The cool thing is if you currently have an Xbox Live account you can log in to it as soon as you get your new Windows Phone. Your custom avatar and account info will be displayed right on your phone. Xbox Live states there are many more titles available and that there will be many new releases available before the holidays.

When Microsoft release the Zune to compete with the Ipod they created the Zune Marketplace. This is where you can download music amongst other things. The Zune software is also the software that will be used to play most media files on Windows Phone 7 devices. Until now the Zune Marketplace has only really been available in the United States. With the release of the Windows Phone world wide the Marketplace has been opened up to almost the rest of the world! It is interesting to learn that Phone 7 has impacted Microsoft’s Zune Marketplace and converted it to global access. The current Zune software on Windows Phones will be running not just media like music and videos but the Xbox feature standard on all new devices. Yet another cool feature available for the gamer in us all.

So the only other carrier (aside from AT&T) for the new Windows Phone 7 will be T-Mobile. The HTC HD7 & the Dell Venue Pro will both be available from T-Mobile. The HTC Windows Phone sports a 4.3″ screen over Dell’s 4.1″ and both have a 480 x 800 res. They both sport the same exact 1 GHz Qualcomm processor, both have HD Video at 720p, as well as them having a 5mp camera. Function wise and basic features these two Windows Phones are pretty close to par with each other. So what’s the difference between these two if you want to get a new T-Mobile phone? First the HTC has the largest screen of any other Windows Phone 7 device. It also has a dual LED flash for the camera. The Dell Windows Phone has a Vertical QWERTY keyboard so I can log my star date or ask the Enterprise to beam me up. I’m not knocking it, I actually think it’s kind of cool and can’t wait to do my Captain Kirk on my trip to the T-mobile store. Dell claims to have a scratch and shatter resistant screen though. Let’s be clear… resistant is not the same as PROOF so I am not exactly sure how to vote yeah or nay on that feature. If I understood my research well enough you will have to order your new Dell Venue Pro Windows Phone directly from Dell while setting up or updating your T-Mobile account. Strange. When Google introduced the Nexus One from HTC it was only available to be purchased directly from Google but you could get the deep discount through establishing service with T-Mobile. I heard rumors that Google wanted to make available a pure “un-chopped” version of Android available to consumers and this is why it was done. Don’t get me wrong that device is way cool. I wonder why Dell is offering their Windows Phone in a similar fashion. At any rate you have to figure out what matters most to you when choosing your new Windows Phone 7 device from T-Mobile. That’s all for now.

So I was surprised to find out that only 2 carriers will supplying Windows Phone 7 units. I was even more surprised to find out AT&T would be carrying 3 out of the 5 available. AT&T being the I-phone exclusive carrier to have 3 units from 3 different manufactures for Windows Phone 7. They will carry the Samsung Focus, LG Quantum & the HTC Surround. They all have a 480×800 res screen but the Focus has 4″ the Surround has 3.8″ and the Quantum has 3.5″ screens respectively. The same speed processor (1ghz) is standard on all these models. All have HD video (720p) and a 5mp camera. So what really sets the AT&T Windows Phone 7 lineup apart? The Samsung is the lightest of the bunch and sports the new Super AMOLED screen which some say is the best mobile display on the market. The LG has a QWERTY keyboard. The HTC has slide out speakers (this may actually be kind of cool) and 16gb internal memory. The HTC will also have a flash for their camera. When selecting your Windows Phone 7 device from AT&T you will have to ask yourself, “Which of these few differences means the most to me?”. If you use your phone as much as I do keep this in mind: The Samsung & LG both have up to 7 hours of talk time but the Samsung has 15 days of standby while the LG has 19. As much as it hurts me to write this the HTC (because I think they make the best devices in the world!!!) only has up to 4 hours talk time with up to 11 hours standby.
